A-Z of London’s accessible stairs

Here are the beginnings of a collection of the best stairs to climb in London:

  • The Tube – the tube stair/ escalator facts on this link are insane – enjoy! Hampstead has the longest stairs, Angel has the longest escalators
  • Tower Wing, Guy’s hospital, London Bridge – 742 from lower ground floor to the very top (keep going above floor 30)
  • The Scoop, London Bridge – equivalent of 176 steps if you go up and down each level from 1 around to 12)
  • Monument (£4) – 311 steps
  • Heal’s department store, Goodge Street – 121 steps on the historic Brewer staircase (ask a store assistant where it is), 155 steps if you go on the modern spiral stairs on the right as you walk in,
  • British Museum – 70 steps in the Great Court, 69 up the old stairs to the left as you walk into the British Museum
  • Sheldon Square, Paddington – 32
  • Greenwich Foot Tunnel – 100 stairs at the south end
  • All the bridges over the River Thames
  • Tate Britain
  • King George VI Memorial & Queen Elizabeth, the Mall
